Relevant experience
February-April 2007:
First Blakiston’s fish owl capture season. Developed capture methodology, caught 4 adult fish owls, which were outfitted with VHF transmitters. Morphological data collected.
December 2006:
Training in raptor harness attachment at the Gabbert Raptor Center (UMN).
March-June 2006:
Exploratory trip to Primorye, Russia, to set foundation for Ph.D. dissertation project involving Blakiston's fish owls. Surveyed for owls, identified potential study animals, conducted behavioral observation, collected DNA samples, and began quantitative descriptions of nest sites.
January 2006:
Training in large raptor handling at Gabbert Raptor Center (UMN).
Oct. 2003-present:
Collection Manager of Invertebrates, Bell Museum of Natural History, Saint Paul, MN. Maintained the research collection, databased specimens, and fulfilled outside information requests.
May-Aug. 2005: Research Assistant on University of Minnesota's California spotted owl project, Georgetown, CA. Assessed reproduction of spotted owl population, assisted in owl capture and banding.
Jan.2003–Sept. 2005:
Volunteer at Bell Museum Ornithology Collection. Prepared bird specimens for research collection. (3 hours/week).
Jan 2003- Sept. 2005:
Translator for the Burke Museum at the University of Washington. Periodically translated ornithological notes and data from Russian to English.
Summers 2003-2004:
Field research for M.S. in Primorye, Russia. Led team of Russian research assistants to collect ornithological and vegetation data.
May-June 2002:
Member of University of Washington/Moscow State University ornithological expedition to Primorye, Russia. Identified bird species, set up and maintained mist-nets, measured and prepared specimens, acted as interpreter.
